It’s easy to imagine that visitor attendance will depend on several factors, first and foremost, how safe people feel in public spaces, even under the “new normal.”
That’s why we asked ourselves how we could help visitors feel comfortable in what used to be an entirely ordinary shared environment—and we decided to step in and do our part.
Through a long-standing collaboration with CoopCulture (an organization operating in the cultural heritage and cultural activities sector), we have developed a range of digital experiences including Audio Culture, Audio Culture Capodimonte (featuring a beacon-guided experiential route), MRT (Royal Museums of Turin), and Sfida al Barocco. We also created the official app for the Colosseum Archaeological Park.
Developed specifically in preparation for reopening after lockdown, the app was designed to make visiting the Park easier while fully complying with the new regulations in force.
Let’s take a closer look.
Colosseum Archaeological Park
With more than 7.5 million visitors in 2019 alone, Italy’s most visited monument has become a global icon, thanks to its extraordinary architecture, the legends of gladiators and games, and its enduring role through the centuries, from medieval and Christian reuse to later ideological interpretations.
The Flavian Amphitheatre rises in the archaeological heart of Rome and welcomes a large number of visitors every day, drawn by the fascination of its history and its complex architecture.
The free app (iOS, Android) enables visitors to explore the Park’s beauty while providing everything needed to plan and manage the visit: complete information, ticket purchase options for all ticket types, and clear guidance on access and safety rules. The app supports the official visitor routes and allows users to view their position and points of interest within one of Italy’s most beloved heritage sites.
Sfida al Barocco
This is the official app for the exhibition “Sfida al Barocco. Rome Turin Paris 1680–1750” (iOS, Android), featuring more than 200 masterpieces from leading museums and collections worldwide, hosted in the magnificent spaces of the Citroniera Juvarriana at the Reggia di Venaria (30 May – 20 September 2020).
The app includes an interactive map showing all works grouped by place of origin. It also provides a general audio guide with a curated visiting route structured as a sequential series of listening tracks. In addition, the creative activity booklets invite visitors of all ages to explore the exhibition through interactive games connected to the artworks and themes on display.
Musei Reali Torino (MRT)
This is the official app of the Royal Museums of Turin (iOS, Android),, located in the historic heart of the city and designed to support visitors before, during, and after their visit.
Complete with audio guides for all museum itineraries (35 listening tracks, continuously updated), it delivers a comprehensive and engaging user experience. Upon opening, visitors can view the full museum journey, while each individual route features a dedicated, recognizable visual interface. Users can also browse a gallery of the most significant objects in a selected area, choose them, and access informative content and in-depth insights.
Audio Culture
Audio Culture (iOS, Android), the first app created through our collaboration with CoopCulture, allows users to purchase the official audio guides of some of Italy’s most prestigious museums, monuments, and archaeological sites.
Its value lies in the rich, original multimedia experiences it enables: images, video, and audio, along with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality features.
If we consider culture a key tool for shaping new imaginaries, collective or individual, in more or less open environments—we must develop solutions that address visitors’ primary needs. That is why each application can be downloaded directly to a personal smartphone, without relying on shared devices provided on site, ensuring safe and fully accessible use.
In addition to these projects, the Valle dei Templi, Capodimonte (store version), and MANN (National Archaeological Museum of Naples) apps are also live. They were designed to support visitors in full compliance with the latest regulations, providing all essential information, ticket and audio guide purchase options, and points of interest.
